Me and a few members of my family have had problems sleeping for some time. It started for me about 5 years ago. I would have trouble falling asleep, and once I was asleep, I would wake up constantly through the night. I researched the subject and tried many remedies, most helped but didn’t alleviate the problem. Below are some of them:
- I learned that I can’t drink any caffeine after 12 noon.
- Don’t play video games right before bed.
- Keep sugar and chocolate intake down before bed.
- A comfortable bed is very important, so I bought a Duxiana bed which is very comfortable, and expensive.
- My back problems caused sleep problems so I bought an Ijoy massage chair which helped a bit.
- My friend gave me a jacuzzi which helped calm me before bedtime.
- I tried Ambien sleeping pills which worked at first, but later didn’t help much and I felt groggy the next day.
- Smoking pot put me to sleep, but I felt groggy again.
- Going to bed at the same time every night helped tremendously. If I stay up past 11:00pm I get too tired and can’t sleep.
- L-tryptophan helped a little.
- PSI Seminars introduced me to a relaxation CD which really helped me to relax and fall asleep.
Some of my family have symptoms from Restless Leg Syndrom and I think I do too. RLS sucks pretty much. When I would go to bed, my legs would get anxious and I would have to move them. It’s hard to explain, but this uncomfortable energy would build up in them and the only way to relieve them was to move my legs. So during the night I would toss and turn, each time waking up. This happened 50 to 150 times in one night. So I was sleeping maybe 15 minutes at a time then waking, rolling over, and falling asleep again.
Any kind of insomnia is debilitating. You can’t function mentally or physically unless you are well rested. Also, your cells don’t regenerate well unless you get rest so you age quickly.
But all of this changed a couple weeks ago. At a spiritual conference I discovered that I need to let go of all of my baggage as it comes. I came to terms with who I am, and when something bothers me, I speak my mind right away. Ever since that Wednesday, I have slept like a baby, barely moving at all during the night. And I have been waking up after 4 - 6 hours feeling well rested and ready for the new day! Now I am looking at Insomnia in a whole new light. When our minds want to tell us something, they often do it to our physical bodies in the form of sickness and disease. It’s kind of like a built in alarm bell. And mine finally stopped ringing and I feel great! Many of my family have been telling me that I have been stirring up trouble, but the truth is I am just expressing myself, rather than repressing myself.
And I have a system to reinforce this. Yesterday I bought a whiteboard and mounted it right next to my bedroom door. So in the morning, and throughout my day, I’ll be reminded of what I need to do to keep my mind and body moving to the next level.

My wife and I got home yesterday from a spiritual conference called Principia. It was life changing, to put it lightly. It started on Sunday and ended the following Sunday. If you’ve ever seen The Secret, you’ve probably heard of some of the speakers. I hadn’t seen The Secret yet, but it’s sitting on my coffee table now to watch. The speakers included, in order of appearance, Jane C. Willhite, Lee Brower, Dr. Judith Orloff, Suzy Prudden, Dr. John Demartini, Bob Proctor, Dr. Pat Allen, Michael Beckwith and Rickie Byars Beckwith, Bill Bastian, and Mark Victor Hansen.
Wow, what a line up of speakers! All of them have been on TV at sometime or another, almost all had written books, and all of them had something truely thought provoking to say. This conference has to be one of the top 5 spiritual conferences that the world has to offer. Last year’s was amazing, and this year topped it. And my wife and I will be attending next year also. I will be sharing some ideas I got from the week soon, so stay tuned.

When people are being altruistic, usually it is because they are compensating for some guilt they have. — Dr. John Demartini
Wow, what a powerful statement from Demartini. This mechanism seems to run many peoples lives. For instance, have you ever met a cat lover who saved every cat they came across? Look back into their past and early on they, or somebody else did something to a cat that made them feel they have to pay them back for what happened. My wife wanted to save the starving because she grew up that way and got out of that situation and now felt guilty for it.
Is being altruistic for something you feel guilty about, being true to yourself?

Soon, my wife and I shall be firewalking! I am so excited. For the last week we’ve been getting our house ready for closing (we’re selling a home), and I’ve been doing last years taxes. So to say it lightly, we are quite stressed. So all of this has to be done before we leave for Principia. And since you probably don’t know what that is, Principia is the last in a series of spiritual or personal growth seminars that we have been attending. We went last year and it was amazing to say the least.
They hold it on a 1000+ acre ranch up in the wine country area north of Napa Valley, California. Each year they have influential speakers on various enlightening subjects. Last year we got to see Mark Victor Hansen, Bob Proctor, John Demartini, and several others whose names escape me. We also did some awesome activities which included firewalking. And let me tell you, firewalking was an amazing experience and it’s no trick. They started with 4 foot tall piles of wood and burned them down to coals. They tested the temperature and it was over 1000 degrees. And I walked across a 6 foot pile of coals with no burns twice. Wow, what an experience. The last time the coals actual felt cold.
And in a day or so, my wife and I will be done with our chores and headed off on a drive from Phoenix to Clearlake, California. The energy level at Principa is like no other. All 400 plus attendees have gone through at least 3 other seminars including the 4 day Basic, the 7 day PSI 7 seminar, and the Men’s or Women’s Leadership seminar which is 10 and 9 days respectively (I guess the Men need an extra day for this one). So everybody there is on the journey to personal enlightenment. And you can feel the energy of 400+ spiritual people. It’s like no other place on earth.
I hope to be able to write more posts here while I am there for the 7 days.
